unique date idea : Go Apple-Picking

October is a perfect date month. Not only is it National Pizza Month and National Pasta Month , it’s also the month that every city has an outdoor festival or parade, which makes for great date activities. One of our favorite date ideas in October is apple-picking; you can get apples at the grocery store anytime, but getting them fresh from the farm while there are still warm days makes them even sweeter.

So mark your calendars for this date idea: on Saturday, October 18 (or any other date this fall), plan to pick apples together. Find an orchard near you through www.pickyourown.org . This website lists farms where customers can go to pick their own produce; many of these places will let you pick your own apples in October.

There are several reasons why date apple-picking is fun. First, it’s a fresh air date idea. Invite your date to meet you at the orchard, pack a lunch and go for a stroll through rows of bright red apples waiting to be picked. Bring along some warm clothes; sometimes it gets chilly out there in the fall air! You can also wear boots if they’re available, because sometimes farms get wet with dew (and believe me when I say that muddy puddles are not romantic).

Second, date apple-picking is hands on . It doesn’t matter how much time either of you spent watching The Bachelor last night–when you’re actually up in the trees picking fruit, it’s hard to date the person across from you. You’ll be interacting instead of watching someone else interact.

Finally, date apple-picking is history . Almost every farm has a small museum or gift shop with information on how apples became popular (many orchards date back hundreds of years). Apples are one of the oldest fruits in America; they were first brought over from Europe by early settlers and colonists. Today there are tons of apple varieties out there, almost all available at an orchard near you!

Your date will never want to eat another Granny Smith after date apple-picking. Trust me on this one. Happy October!
