fun date idea : Play a sport or do an activity you are both horrible at or have never done

Few date activities can be as fun and exhilarating (or exhausting) as a date involving physical activity, whether it’s playing a sport or doing something completely new. It can bring you and your date closer together, introduce you to friends or family members if they came along, or even just contribute to your well-being by inspiring you to get healthier.

However, this date idea isn’t for everyone. If neither of you have any experience with the sport in question and/or one of you is significantly better than the other, then it might cause more harm than good: hurt feelings and possible embarrassment all around! That’s why I suggest that this date idea works best when both parties are “horrible” at the activity (at least for this date) or when you’ve never tried it before.

I can think of a few good options, like table tennis, bowling, badminton, or something similar—something that won’t take too long to play and understand (otherwise one of you will get bored), is engaging enough to keep your attention through the date, but neither of you are likely to win/do very well. Making sure you are both horrible at it is vital. You don’t want either one of you taking it too seriously because then it would just feel mean on top of being embarrassing for one of you. It should be fun!

If the date smoothly and you find that you’re both not very good at it, try to finish early and do something else! There’s no rule that the date has to go on forever. But if things came out well, congratulations! You could be the next great sporty couple… or at least have fun trying!

Background information: Did you know playing table tennis is actually really good exercise? And bowling can burn up to 200 calories in a half hour? Who knew? You might want to learn more about the sport of table tennis for your date night. It sounds like an activity where even though one player may end up better than their date, there are ways around that problem (for example, everyone gets three paddles each). Or maybe you could talk to the employees at your local bowling alley about what other date ideas they might have, such as something that involves trying to knock down more pins than each other. And if you’re looking for a date idea just for two people, there is always badminton. It’s a bit more active than ping pong, and I think it would be great for two people who want to date each other but don’t know what to do.
