Unique date idea: Take a factory or brewery or bakery tour

Many people date to go out to a restaurant, but it can be expensive and sometimes you’d rather have a date at home. If you want an inexpensive date idea that will send your date home with a sweet treat or delicious meal, consider going on a factory tour. Here are some ideas for factory tours in the San Francisco Bay Area:

San Francisco Chocolate Company

The San Francisco Chocolate Company gives free tours of their facility on Saturdays from 12-3 pm. You don’t get any chocolate samples during the tour, but you do get to see how they make their chocolate products and what goes into making chocolate bars, truffles, drinking chocolates, etc. The room where they temper the chocolate is cool to watch. These tours take about 45 minutes and there is a pretty steady stream of people, so you can hop on and off as you please during the tour.

San Francisco Ice Cream Tours

For two hours, you’ll get to walk around San Francisco eating ice cream and drinking frozen cocktails. You’ll see famous neighborhoods like Chinatown and North Beach up close, explore historic alleyways, stop by the Golden Gate Bridge for a photo op, and finish with ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery in 18 Reasons. The tour ends at Urban Putt where you can play mini golf afterward if you wanted! This date idea costs $75 per person. If that date night budget seems a little high for your tastes, check out their date night special. You can get $75 off the date night tour if you buy two tickets for one date night!

Velosoul Cyclery Tour

If your date is into bikes or rides a bike, consider going on Velosoul’s shop tour. They offer tours every Monday at 6 pm that last an hour and 15 minutes. The tours are free, but they do ask for donations to their nonprofit partner Fleet Feet Sports. They don’t make any products themselves, but they sell high-end product from brands like Specialized, Felt, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Moots, Parlee Cycles, Enve Composites & Wheels, All City Cycles etc. Plus you probably have more fun learning about the history of cycling than you would at a regular bike shop.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA)

If your date is into hiking or exploring parks, consider going on a GGNRA tour. The national recreation area stretches from southern Marin County to northern San Francisco and includes 47% of the park lands in the city: Ocean Beach, Crissy Field, Baker Beach, Lands End and Fort Funston. You can find guided tours once a month starting in March and they last about two hours. Tours cost $15 per person if you pre-register online and $20 per person if you do it day of. If your date plans on driving to any of these locations anytime soon, check out our blog post with tips for driving in the city.

Expedia’s date night package is offered every Thursday night from 5-8 pm where your date will eat for free at certain restaurants! For $25, you get two coupons, each of which is worth $50 toward any food purchase at participating restaurants. There are so many deals to choose from that Expedia even has an FAQ list with all of them here . You can find deals like $5 burgers and fries, $20 date night dinners (2 entrees, 2 drinks), etc. It’s definitely worth checking out! This date idea costs nothing if you plan on splitting the cost of food or don’t want to eat out that night.
